FYI

OPPOSE SB 6506 HB2546

ü             Planned Parenthood lobbyist called me Thursday. She said it was a parent's rights bill.  (When has PP been for parent's rights?  It has no mention of recourse for parents or abstinence ed providers.)

ü             Then she said it was intended to control all three sources of abstinence education, Title V, Teen Aware guest speakers and federally funded or volunteer speakers as long as they are in the schools.  One bill to amend 3 statues, that right there is a red flag.

ü             Rep Maloscia gave me a list of who the DOH would accept as accurate. ALL of them have policies against abstinence.  (See attached)

ü             CA didn't pass their law because Amy Stevens fought it. – PP  handout to lobby this bill was inaccurate – imagine that!

ü             IL tabled theirs for the moment because of Kathleen Sullivan from Project Reality.

ü             ME is fighting theirs according to John Diggs from Physicians Consortium.

ü             IN defeated theirs according to Leslee from National Abstinence Clearinghouse.

ü             Please reconsider taking the high ground first and then we can suggestions only if we have to make this horrible legislation less terrible in the end.

ü             WA state (among others) is the reason that SPRANS had to be initiated. They did a poor job with Title V and they want control of the new monies. This is their way to get it.

ü             PP controls DOH, DOH can dictate since there are no checks and balances in the legislation and then they don’t have to teach marriage in compliance with the funds, according to Heritage Foundation, lead policy agency on Abstinence Education Bill

When do they get audited?????????? And by whom??????????
