San Marcos School District implemented Sexuality, Commitment & Family as part of a total program; “Decision Making/ Keys to Total Success” after 147 girls had become pregnant during the 1984-85 school year. After two years of the program, the number of pregnancies had dropped to 20. The district also showed higher standard achievement scores and declining drug referrals and dropouts. The overall program received an award as one of the 100 Best Curricula in the U.S. from the National School Board Association (N.S.B.A.).
